Dr. Jeanne Jacobs, president of the Miami Dade College Homestead Campus, will be guest speaker for the Feb. 4 Bea Peskoe Lunchtime Lecture series presentation at the Homestead Community Center, 1601 N. Krome Ave.
February is Black History Month and the Homestead Center for the Arts presents this free series. The lecture begins at noon.
Dr. Jacobs became president of the Homestead Campus on Nov. 1, 2005. Prior to her current important post, she served as vice president for instruction at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH, and as dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Jacobs brings more than 33 years of administrative leadership and teaching experience in community colleges. She began her career in higher education at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, AL, where she served as associate dean for Human Resources and Legal Affairs, assistant to the dean of the college, and assistant director of Community Services and Continuing Education. She also taught in the English Department.
Her current community involvement includes serving on the board of directors of Homestead Hospital and trustee membership on the Executive Council of the Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce, Homestead Educational Facilities Board, and the Greater Miami Chapter of the Links Inc.
The late Bea Peskoe was an advocate for education, social justice and culture. Appropriately, she and her husband, Irving, had much to do with Miami Dade College establishing a campus in Homestead.
