Enrique A. Vicéns-Rivera, CEO of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Miami, 20601 Old Cutler Rd., passed away on Mar. 20, at the age of 63, after a year-long battle with lymphoma.

Mr. Vicéns-Rivera had a unique and distinguished background. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. MA with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Later, he obtained his juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and in 2001, earned his master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Puerto Rico’s medical sciences campus.

Mr. Vicéns-Rivera, who served as HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Miami’s CEO since 2015, joined the company in 2010 as CEO of HealthSouth Manati in Puerto Rico. Prior to joining HealthSouth, he was the chief operating officer and legal counsel for the Damas Hospital Foundation, one of the largest acute care hospital systems in Puerto Rico.

In addition to his work at the hospital, Mr. Vicéns-Rivera also served on the board of directors of the Puerto Rico Hospital Association and the board of trustees of Carolos Albizu University.

“He loved working here,” said Kevin Conn, HealthSouth Southeastern regional vice president of operations. “He was just a classy guy.

Everything he did, he did it with class, and most importantly he always treated people with class.”

Linda Wilder, president of the Southeast Region, added, “He was such an amazing person and such a great leader. He was truly remarkable. Our corner of the world is better for his presence in it. We will miss him very much.”

In addition to his work at the hospital, Mr. Vicéns-Rivera enjoyed traveling and playing tennis and golf, but his true love was his family.

He and his wife of 40 years, Gisselle, had two daughters and two granddaughters.
