Vice President SIBCS Fund The Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School Fund held a gala fund raiser on May 2, 2010 in honor of the Mayor on his 75th birthday.

The “Fund” was instituted to raise money to supplement and complement the funds available to the Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School. In a depressed economy when the State of Florida and the Dade County School Board are hard pressed to supply the funds that are required to keep our school functioning at the highest level, this not for profit corporation is attempting to fill the gap.

The entire community came together to make the celebration for Mayor Edelcup a success in every way. The contributions in cash and kind topped $50,000 with Coastal Construction donating $5,000 and The Newport Beach Hotel Catering donating the food and service. Sheila and Bob Caplan took charge of design and decoration, enlisting Luke’s Landscaping and Amazing Flowers to contribute plants and flowers for the occasion. Dave Gartner donated his professional photographic expertise to capture the event in living vivid color.

Cliff Schulman roasted the Mayor in his usual insightful and delicate manner. Dr. Annette Weissman praised Mayor Edelcup for his continued support for the education of the children of Sunny Isles Beach. We wish to thank station WSVN and Mike DiPasquale for his participation and entertaining remarks as Emcee of the event. Susan Simpson and Sylvia Flores did an excellent job of coordinating the event with other City activities and assisting in getting the Pelican Park site in ship shape condition for the event and returned to its “activity” status in record time.

The Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School Fund thanks all the citizens, small businesses, developers and contractors for their participation, support, and contributions. The Fund will be reaching out in the near future to other businesses, parents, and local citizens for their support. Please support your local school.

Happy Birthday Norman Edelcup!
