The second annual Hook for Hope Dolphin Fishing Tournament will take place on Saturday, July 14, in Cutler Bay as a family event and charitable fundraiser.

Rebecca Parker of Parker-Haar Charities Inc., the organizer, explained about the tournament and its history.

“Captains may register their boats on or before the captains meeting at Black Point Ocean Grill on Thursday, July 12,” Parker said. “Everyone is invited to the dinner and awards party at the Ocean Grill beginning at 5 p.m. on the 14th. There will be food specials, raffles and a silent auction, for the whole family.

“The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the Bobby Parker Foundation for Hope. This foundation is to help families in our community during times of tragedy.”

Her husband, Robert Allen Parker, known as “Bobby,” was born in 1965, joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation from South Dade High School in 1983 and served four years as a firefighter at Eglin

AFB. Returning to his hometown of Miami he became a firefighter for the City of Coral Gables, serving as a driver for Hose 2 at Station 1. In 2001, he became a Nationally Certified Paramedic.

“In February of 2010 he earned his 20- year pin,” Rebecca Parker said. “On July 16, 2010 he lost his life by a horrific accident at our home. He was a healthy 45-year-old man who had a wife, three children, three stepchildren and a 2-year-old grandson. He was a strong, loyal, selfless, giving man and his absence in this world is heartbreaking for those who knew and loved him.”

In May 2011 Parker-Haar Charities Inc. opened a foundation in his name, “The Bobby Parker Foundation for Hope.”

“The purpose of this foundation is to help families in times of tragedy, basically to continue the work Bobby did in his life and to do it in his memory,” Rebecca Parker said.

“The first fundraising event to fund the foundation was a Dolphin Fishing Tournament called, ‘Hook for Hope.’ It was held at the Black Point Ocean Grill and Marina on Saturday, July 16, 2011, the anniversary of Bobby’s unfortunate accident. The second annual tournament will take place on July 14, 2012.”

Black Point Ocean Grill and Marina is located at 24775 SW 87 Ave. For information call Rebecca Parker at 786-863-2994 or Kimberly Haar at 305-321-5171.
