Max Mayfield, WPLG Local 10’s hurricane specialist and former director of the National Hurricane Center, has guided South Floridians through severe weather and catastrophic hurricanes. He will speak at East Ridge at Cutler Bay on Tuesday, June 24, 11:45 a.m., about South Florida’s hurricane history, sharing an insider’s look into our devastating hurricane seasons as well as how to be better prepared for this year’s hurricane season.
Mayfield is recognized as one of the world’s most knowledgeable scientists with an expertise in forecasting the path and intensity of tropical storms. He has been honored by local, state and federal officials for his tireless efforts.
As director of the National Hurricane Center from 2000 to 2007, he became the trusted voice in preparing for weatherrelated disasters, particularly tropical storms and hurricanes. He joined the weather team at WPLG-TV in 2007 as a hurricane specialist.
