Infinity Auto Insurance donates $1.5M to Step Up For Students

Step Up For Students and Infinity Auto Insurance co-hosted a back-to-school event at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic School in Cutler Bay celebrating Infinity’s $1.5 million contribution to the scholarship program. The donation is made in honor of Infinity’s popular bilingual literacy program, Read Conmigo, and will fund 336 scholarships for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

“Step Up For Students and Read Conmigo share the common ground of providing parents resources and tools to enhance their children’s education,” said Greg Fasking, vice president of Consumer Marketing for Infinity Auto Insurance. “We are very pleased to extend our support of Step Up For Students another year and to increase our contribution by 50 percent.”

During the past school year, Step Up For Students provided approximately 40,000 scholarships to low-income students across the state of Florida. Also known as the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, it enables corporations to redirect certain types of tax liabilities to fund scholarships for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

“We are truly grateful to have Infinity Auto Insurance as a partner in our mission to ensure that low-income children have choices in their education,” said Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up For Students. “We are inspired by Infinity’s unwavering commitment to education, not only through our program, but through their innovative Read Conmigo bilingual reading campaign.”

At the event, families enjoyed a meal together and a presentation about Infinity’s Read Conmigo bilingual literacy program. The campaign provides parents free English- Spanish books to encourage reading together at home and to foster bilingualism. Studies have shown that bilingual children enjoy educational advantages that translate into higher-paying careers later in life.

Teachers from Our Lady of the Holy Rosary used books provided by Read Conmigo to demonstrate how parents and children can make the most of their time reading together at home in English and in Spanish.

Sponsored by Infinity Auto Insurance, Read Conmigo is a parent-focused literacy program that promotes bilingualism by providing parents with unique learning tools like bilingual children’s books for free to help improve the learning environment in the home. The mission of Read Conmigo is to enrich the learning environment for children by providing parents with resources to improve their families’ reading habits and to foster a lifelong love of reading.
