'Interactive Steel' sculpture exhibition at Pinecrest Gardens through April

Colombian-American artist Santiago Medina is presenting his acclaimed multi-city monumental stainless steel sculpture exhibition, “Interactive Steel,” at Pinecrest Gardens through mid-April 2017. The exhibition is ideal for capturing memories through selfies.

The highly polished mirror-finish stainless steel sculptures seemingly morph in shape and color as the day goes from dawn to dusk, creating timeless masterpieces full of light and movement. At night, color LED lights bring shades of red and blue to the sculptures adding another dimension to their beauty.

Peace, Eternity, Energy and Inspiration are among the names of the sculptures presented emphasizing Medina’s artistic message of hope and positive energy that his powerful art emphasizes.

Medina’s sculptures are in the permanent collections of some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions. Medina is the only Colombian-American sculptor to have a permanent monumental sculpture at Harvard University.

Recent additions to academic institutions include: Flame of Excellence dedicated to the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Infinity located at the Tisch Library at Tufts University in Greater Boston. In October, 2016 Medina’s sculpture Wisdom was admitted to the permanent collection of the Taplin Gallery at Miami Country Day School. In 2016, his sculpture Dreams was permanently housed in the main lobby of the Stanford University Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.

For more than 30 years, Medina has combined his unique expertise in art with advanced medical imaging. He is a pioneer in the use of advanced medical imaging such as Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to scan his sculptures and subsequently enhance the volumetric appeal, artistic message and sculptural form. He has also done research in functional brain imaging to better understand the crucial areas of the brain involved in the creation of sculptures.

Medina has studios in Miami; Pietrasanta (Tuscany), Italy, and Medellin, Colombia. His work can be found in both public and private collections, and exhibited at major art fairs worldwide such as at New York Context Art Fair, Context Art Miami, Art Basel Week Miami, Wynwood Art Fair, Houston Art Fair, Palm Beach International Art Fair, Arte Sinfonia Bogota, Miami International Art Fair MIA, Sculpt Miami and Arte America.
