The Miami Foundation announced recently that local philanthropists Jorge and Darlene Pérez donated their Miami Beach condominium to The Miami Foundation.
The sale of the One Collins Avenue property closed June 25 with all proceeds going towards supporting local causes including in the areas of arts and culture and economic development. Following their Coconut Grove home that sold for $33 million in 2021, this is the second property the Pérez family has donated to The Miami Foundation in the past three years.
This generous gift furthers the Pérez family’s lifelong commitment to serving Miami-area nonprofits and builds upon their multi-million-dollar contributions through The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation. The gift also is the latest milestone in Jorge Pérez’s commitment to The Giving Pledge, a movement of the world’s wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their fortunes to charitable causes.
“The Perez family once again sets the bar for bold and innovative generosity,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, president and CEO of The Miami Foundation. “This is the second time they have made a significant home donation to benefit our community, as they live out their Giving Pledge commitment. The Miami Foundation loves partnering with donors to activate untraditional assets as donations to strengthen Miami.”
The Miami Foundation has worked with the Pérez family for more than 30 years. Jorge M. Pérez, one of the nation’s most respected real estate developers, served on the board of trustees of The Miami Foundation from 1991 through 1996. In that time, he helped steer the foundation during the recovery from Hurricane Andrew, another difficult period in our community.
“Our family is honored to support The Miami Foundation, as the organization has been an irreplaceable partner in our efforts to build a stronger, more resilient South Florida,” Pérez said. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this gift, and to continuing our work with the individuals who dedicate their time to changing lives across our community. We hope to inspire others to take action and leverage their resources for the greater good.”
The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation (the Family Foundation) promotes sustainable, inclusive, and just communities by supporting programs and organizations focused on arts and culture, health and well-being, education, environment, and economic development – with a particular preference for programs and organizations that could serve as models for other urban centers.
Beyond investing in The Miami Foundation’s many philanthropic initiatives, the Family Foundation also has created a series of signature programs, including the Pérez CreARTE Grants Program (CreARTE). Designed and administered with support from The Miami Foundation, CreARTE looks to cultivate a more vibrant, connected and stimulating arts ecosystem by expanding arts access, education, fellowships and residences.
The third cohort of CreARTE grantees was announced in the fall of 2023. The Pérez family also is a lead partner for The Miami Foundation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Miami in the areas of civic engagement and economic opportunity through the Saltwater Fellowship and Give Miami Day.
