Miami resident Joshua Calarino, during an Aug. 10 ceremony in Los Angeles, received the 2016 Voice Awards Young Adult Leadership Award for his tireless efforts working to empower Miami-area youth through Youth MOVE Miami.

Now in its 11th year, the Voice Awards event honors people in the entertainment industry and individuals in the behavioral health community who work to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues and substance use disorders. Previous Voice Award Special Recognition winners include actor Wayne Brady, actress Kristen Johnston, former NBA star Metta World Peace, U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, and others.

Joshua became involved with Youth MOVE Miami in high school after seeking ways to deal with stress and other challenges in his life. He quickly fell in love with the program’s mission and vision, and in just two years, completed between 400 and 500 hours of community service.

Joshua then joined the Youth MOVE Miami Executive Board of Officers, serving as vice president in 2014. During his term as vice president, Youth MOVE Miami was awarded the Youth MOVE National Rockstar Chapter of the Year Award. Today, Joshua serves on the board of directors for Youth MOVE National.

Calarino graduated from International Studies Charter High School and attends Miami-Dade College where he is majoring in Nursing.
