The Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, one of South Florida’s most active community service organizations, recently presented college scholarships to 16 high school seniors.
The club distributed $16,000 worth of scholarships, one of its highest totals in recent years.
“Being able to help 16 kids fulfill their dream of attending college is an incredible experience,” said Mia DeVane, head of the club’s Scholarship Committee. “When we assist the future leaders of tomorrow to attend college or a trade school, it is an investment in the future of the South Dade community.”
The college-bound seniors, who represented six high schools throughout the Homestead/South Dade area, received their recognition during the club’s regular Tuesday lunch meeting at Portofino Coal Fired Pizza, 650 NE 22 Terr. In Homestead. Nearly 60 people, including proud parents, attended the ceremony.
Scholarship winners have been accepted at a wide variety of colleges and universities, including the University of Florida, Florida International University, Davidson College, University of South Florida, Florida State, Santa Fe College, University of North Florida, Clark University, Florida A&M, and the Air Force Academy.
