The Miami-Dade 2023 Solar Co-op has selected Sunbility to install solar panels for the 68-member group. Co-op members selected Sunbility through a competitive bidding process over four other firms.

The co-op continues to accept new members as hurricane season begins, helping to raise awareness about how rooftop solar, when paired with battery storage, is helping Florida residents and businesses become more resilient to future hurricanes.

“We’re excited to have been selected by the members of the local Solar United Neighbors co-op. Sunbility is grateful to serve as your trusted solar partner and we look forward to this opportunity to help Miami-Dade County homeowners go solar together,” said Danielle Stallings, CEO of Sunbility.

Solar United Neighbors expands access to solar by educating Miami-Dade County residents about the benefits of distributed solar energy, helping them organize group solar installations, and strengthening Miami-Dade County solar policies and its community of solar supporters.

Co-op members selected Sunblity based on pricing, equipment, warranties and experience.

“After visiting a past co-op member participant to see their installation, I was confident in my decision to join Solar United Neighbors,” said Melissa Meyer, member of the Miami-Dade 2023 Solar Co-op Selection Committee. “The vendor-neutral team at Solar United Neighbors skillfully guided committee members through a highly technical installer selection process by breaking down and categorizing the information that we needed to make an informed decision.”

“As we’ve witnessed in recent storms, South Florida is more susceptible to power outages and fuel shortages than ever before. The solar co-op is helping more people utilize rooftop solar and battery storage to provide some peace of mind to local communities in the wake of a hurricane or other weather events,” said Laura Tellez, South Florida Program Coordinator. “EV charging paired with solar is a convenient and economical way to charge a car at home with sunshine.”

The co-op is open to new members until July 22. Miami-Dade County residents interested in joining the co-op can sign up at solarunitedneighbors.org/miami.

The solar co-op is free to join and joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Sunbility will provide each co-op member with an individualized proposal based on the group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, members can save on the cost of going solar and have the support of fellow group members and solar experts at Solar United Neighbors.

SUN has hosted 81 solar co-ops in Florida since 2015. According to the group’s estimates, the 2,387 homes and businesses that now have solar panels because of co-ops represent: 23.6 thousand kW of solar power, $56.6 million in local solar spending, and more than 714.12 million pounds of lifetime carbon offsets.
