The Miami-Dade County Commission recently passed legislation to expand the Naranja Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), which will contribute towards the development of the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) plan in South Dade.
The resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Dennis Moss, brings the economically depressed areas of Naranja, Princeton and Leisure City along US1 and the South Dade Transitway into the CRA.
As property values increase and new tax dollars are generated, CRAs reinvest the new tax revenues to improve the area, attracting business and creating jobs. The funds are used for infrastructure improvements, public safety, community services and other economic development activities.
“I look forward to the continued collaboration with Commissioner Moss and the Naranja CRA on our mission to attract jobs and investment to the South Dade Transitway as part of our planned expansion of premium transit,” Commissioner Levine Cava said.
“The community of Naranja is one of the fastest growing areas in South Dade for new development opportunities. The expansion of the Naranja CRA will support future growth and major improvements in transit and business development,” Commissioner Moss added.
The expectation is that the Naranja CRA will fuel the development of mixed-use centers and job centers in South Dade along the Transitway, relieving pressure on the Urban Development Boundary and shifting South Dade to new mobility solutions.
