Miami-Dade County School Board member Luisa Santos proffered at the board meeting of June 18 agenda item B-3 recognizing Walter Hall as Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ 2025 Principal of the Year.
Hall, principal of Leisure City K-8 Center, was honored at an awards ceremony sponsored by the Dade Association of School Administrators (DASA) on April 17. The prestigious honor recognizes Hall’s exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication to student achievement, and his transformative impact on school culture and community engagement.
Hall brings to his role as principal over 23 years of educational service, including eight years as a teacher and 12 years as an assistant principal at Miami Southridge, Homestead, and Miami Norland Senior High Schools.
Since assuming leadership of Leisure City K-8 Center in 2019, Hall has spearheaded initiatives that led the school to its highest-ever academic performance, implemented an eight-period school day, and expanded rigorous academic pathways through dual enrollment with Miami Dade College and the Cambridge International Program.
Hall has broadened access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education, enhanced student engagement through arts and robotics, and fostered a leadership culture by mentoring teachers into instructional and administrative roles.
He has strengthened the school’s ties to the community by launching programs such as the Backpack Program and Mobile Food Market to combat food insecurity, and initiated family events like Daddy-Daughter and Mother-Son dances, reinforcing the school as a hub of unity, joy, and belonging.
Hall’s leadership extends beyond academics — he is a visible, compassionate presence, greeting students daily by name, mentoring youth through crises, and comforting families in times of tragedy. His professional excellence is further evidenced by recognitions such as the Florida Tax Watch Principal Leadership Award, the Cahn Fellowship Program, and his participation in leadership programs at FIU and Harvard University, as well as his service as CEO of The Coleman Foundation and advisory roles with Caring for Miami and Raising a Village Foundation.
The resolution honors and commends Hall for his outstanding service, extraordinary contributions to education, and his well-deserved recognition as the 2025 Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Principal of the Year.
