Memory study… The latest findings on ‘Super Agers’ from an NIH Funded Study will be presented at East Ridge at Cutler Bay on Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. by its lead investigator Dr. David Loewenstein, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and director of neuropsychology at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. He’s leading the study that identifies ways to detect normal versus abnormal aging. Super Agers are people in their 80s and 90s with brains and memories that seem decades younger. Recent research suggests older adults who are cognitively active and socially engaged have less chance of developing brain-related diseases. The event is open to the public and seating is limited. Lunch will be served.

“Pick the Flick.” The Village of Palmetto Bay’s Halloween event at Coral Reef Park is on October 30. Want to have some say in the movie they’re showing? Care to join? The Palmetto Bay Partnership Advisory Committee was created in the summer of 2015 and is currently filling the 13 open positions. The mission of this public advisory group is as follows: To realize the economic and social potential of the Village of Palmetto Bay by providing advisory input and recommendations to the Mayor and Council. Members will assist the Mayor and Council in implementing these recommendations, and economic recommendations that accrue from the Village’s Strategic Plan, as requested by Mayor and Council.

Last chance, students. Interim Town Clerk Jacqueline N. Wilson tells us that the Town Of Cutler Bay Town Council is seeking school students residing in Cutler Bay to be appointed by the town council to serve on the town’s Youth Council Committee. The youth council created by town resolution 12-63, will advise and make “appropriate recommendations” to the town council regarding issues of special interest to youths. Interested resident students please provide a resume, and a list of qualifications, or other relevant information to the Office Of Town Clerk by Wednesday, September 30.
