The Town of Cutler Bay hosted its ninth annual Wings Over the Bay cook-off at Cutler Ridge Park on Saturday, Mar. 14.

A large crowd attended the event as both amateur and professional chefs competed for prizes and top honors while food fanciers sampled a variety of the popular chicken wing recipes.

Town councilmembers BJ Duncan, Suzy Lord and Richard Ramirez were on hand to emcee the event and help with the judging and prize presentations. Also attending were Florida State Sen. Alexis Calatayud and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins.

The event was supported by local businesses and residents.

Ricky Valido and the Hialeah Hillbillies provided live music, and there were face-painters and other attractions for the children.

In addition to the judged categories of Buffalo, grilled, and parmesan wings, those attending voted for the People’s Choice Best Wing winner. Chefs prepared their special recipes onsite and provided samples for the judges and attendees.

The results were announced as follows:

This year’s sponsors were District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, Baptist Health and T&S Impact Windows & Doors.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of a $2 million check in federal funding from the Office of U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, given to the town for drainage, stormwater, and infrastructure improvements for the Lakes by the Bay Community. This funding represents “a significant investment in long-term resilience and quality of life” for Cutler Bay residents.
