Ed Wolmers is running for the town’s Seat 1 council member position.

A Cutler Bay resident for more than 20 years, he has been married for 28 years and has four children. He is a small business owner, Khoury League assistant coach, former auxiliary police officer and Citizens Crime Watch captain.

“I decided to run for Cutler Bay Council Seat 1, because I care about Cutler Bay, and I believe I have the leadership skills, proven track record of community service, and the vision necessary to generate positive changes at Town Hall,” Wolmers said.

“As a local business owner, civic activist and family man who has called Cutler Bay home for over 20 years, I understand firsthand the challenges we face as a town. I had the honor of serving as a founding member of the Cutler Bay Charter Committee and served on the 2012 Charter Review Committee. For these endeavors, among many others, I was awarded two proclamations for Meritorious Service from the Town of Cutler Bay.

“I strongly feel that the current incumbent has not demonstrated her commitment to our town or its residents by her poor attendance to council meetings and her lack of initiatives. Crime has gone up in our town; we have pressing issues on infrastructure demands, economic development, annexation, and the current incumbent barely attends or partakes in these discussions. That’s simply wrong. I want to change that.”

When asked what his top priority would be in the months following the election, he replied:

“Developing crime reduction strategies geared towards protecting our families and making our neighborhoods safer. Also, making sure that we are economically sound and promote fiscal responsibility to ensure we can keep property taxes low.”

Wolmers was asked what he would bring to the “job” that would make the work easier or benefit the community.

“The fact that I am a local small business owner, family man and have lived in Cutler Bay for over 20 years. This gives me a unique understanding of our community and our town.”

Wolmers responded when asked why he hopes that residents will vote for him for Council Seat 1.

“Because I believe that Cutler Bay requires responsible management and common sense leadership, to ensure effective governance, so we can reap the benefits of keeping taxes low, reducing crime, creating jobs, improving our parks, protecting our seniors and a government that is responsive to its residents.”
