Cutler Bay resident Shayna Lee Rogg, who began studying dance at age 3 and who has been performing professionally for years, has followed a dream and recently opened her own dance studio. Called Hipnotic Dance Studio, it is located at 20433 Old Cutler Rd.
Rogg has classes for both adults and children in a variety of styles.

“Our slogan is ‘Bellydance, Ballet & Beyond,’” Rogg said. “We are offering classes in ballet, bellydance, hip hop, salsa, yoga, and zumba for now. We hope to expand the program to other dance styles in the upcoming months.”

She studied ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and other forms as she was growing up, and was even on her high school’s dance team, but she finally discovered a style she loved the most.

“I was exposed to bellydance later in my teens and found my passion,” Rogg said. “I began teaching and performing bellydance at age 16. My dream back then was to open my own dance studio. In fact, I shared this dream with a high school friend of mine and told her that she could be a teacher at my studio when we grew up. And guess what? She is now teaching ballet at my studio. Dreams do come true if you stay true to your dreams.”

Rogg was valedictorian of her middle school and later earned a degree in business. She continues to increase her knowledge of business and marketing by attending business- related workshops and events. She is a member of the Cutler Bay Business Association and an international professional bellydance performer, which is where her heart is. She teaches workshops and recently started a dance and fitness clothing line called “Gypsy Wear.”

“Dance is not only a great way to express yourself and your individuality, but also a great form of exercise and stress relief,” Rogg said.

“Our classes always make you smile and often make you sweat.”
She encourages people who haven’t danced much or ever thought about taking dance classes to overcome their reluctance and give it a try.

“I would say that everyone can dance,” Rogg said. “At Hipnotic Dance Studio everyone is free to express themselves. Most students don’t expect to compete or win any awards; they just love dance, and it’s great exercise and a fun activity. If you love to dance you are welcome to try your first class free.”

Classes are conducted daily Monday through Saturday, for students ages 3 through adults — males and females.
