Rhythm India’s Bollywood & Beyond will take to the Main Stage of the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, Apr. 8, at 8 p.m.
Set to Ghungroo, which uses small bells to accentuate rhythmic dance in traditional Indian culture, Rhythm India will steer the audience through a vibrant journey punctuated by bright costumes and dynamic music. Using dance as a pure celebration of culture and history, Bollywood & Beyond underscores the importance of expression, communication, and joy.
Bollywood & Beyond features the Joya Kazi Unlimited company dancers, world-renowned for appearing on both Bollywood and Hollywood screens. Rhythm India was founded by Joya Kazi, winner of both the Indian American World Choreography Award and the Telly Award, as well as a Universal Dance Award Nominee.
Kazi is a highly accomplished actress, dancer, and choreographer who has appeared in numerous Bollywood and Hollywood movies, including Mindy Kaling’s Netflix series Never Have I Ever and FOX’s New Girl. As a choreographer and performer, she has worked on countless projects, including those with Disney, DreamWorks, The International Indian Film Academy Awards, The Grammys, DJ Snake, The Strokes, and Raja Kumari.
“Indian dance is as diverse as Indian culture — it contains stories, emotions, celebrates happiness, and is designed to provide great entertainment. Rhythm India is a celebration of all the diversity of this art form,” said Eric Fliss, managing director of the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center.
“Bollywood may be the most recognized and identified art form of Indian dance, and we welcome our audience to enjoy all the pageantry that is Bollywood and Beyond,” he added.
