Miami-Dade County School Board member Mary Blanco recently hosted four Back-to-School Giveaway Events for the students and families of District 7, distributing more than 1,800 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students.
Not only did students leave with free backpacks and school supplies, but they also had the option to receive free haircuts, snacks, and family-friendly community resources.
Blanco had hosted events at Redland Elementary, Avocado Elementary with Coke Florida, Miami Heights Elementary, and South Miami Heights Elementary. She thanked the administrative teams and faculty of each school for their partnership.
Also thanked were State Sen. Alexis Calatayud, State Rep. Mike Redondo, Miami-Dade County Commissioners Kionne McGhee and Danielle Cohen Higgins.
Sponsorships and donations were made by Coke Florida, Herff Jones, The Education Fund,
The Children’s Trust, The Christmas Smiles Project, and the Greater Kendall Business Association. Also, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Miami-Dade Public Library, Parent Academy, and the Miami Barber Institute for provided invaluable resources, services, and family fun at the events.
