School Board member Mary Blanco, District 7, hosted her annual End-of-Year Celebration on Apr. 29 at South Dade Senior High School to recognize and honor the outstanding accomplishments of students, faculty, and staff from across District 7 during the 2024-25 school year.

This celebratory evening served as a joyful reflection on a year filled with academic excellence, personal growth, and remarkable dedication. Accompanied by their families and school communities, students were recognized for achievements in academic excellence and citizenship. The Do the Right Thing Award was presented to Diego Sanz from Vineland K–8 Center, and the Andrea Camps Dance & Arts Award was presented to Victoria San Martin from TERRA Environmental Research Institute.

Blanco also recognized outstanding educators by presenting awards to the Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year nominees from each District 7 school. These educators were honored for their commitment to student success and for creating dynamic, inclusive classrooms where all students are empowered to thrive.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to celebrate our students, teachers, and all those whose efforts have made this school year a success,” Blanco said. “Everyone has contributed meaningfully to their school communities. I am inspired by their dedication and excellence, and I am humbled to serve such an incredible community.”

The celebration was elevated by a series of vibrant artistic performances that showcased the rich talent found throughout District 7 schools. Participating groups included the South Dade Senior High School Marching Band; Cheerleaders; JROTC; and 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project; Sophia Velazquez, Adniela Betancourt, and Angelina Aias for singing the National Anthem; Daniella Martinez for leading the Pledge of Allegiance; the Arvida Middle School Jazz Band; the William Lehman Elementary Musical Theater Troupe; the South Dade Senior High Sapphires Dance Team; the Winston Park K–8 Center Thespian Troupe, and the Norma Butler Bossard Elementary Musical Theater Troupe.

Board Member Blanco extended her heartfelt appreciation to the South Region Office, principal Jonathan Britton, district staff, Annette Torres, and the entire South Dade Senior High administrative team for their vital support in bringing this event to life.
