School Board member hosts Thanksgiving Give Back event
The event provided families with Thanksgiving food staples, helping to alleviate holiday food costs.

Miami-Dade County School Board member Luisa Santos, on Saturday, Nov. 23, brought the community together for the third annual Thanksgiving Give Back event at the Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts.

This impactful initiative provided families with Thanksgiving food staples, helping to alleviate holiday food costs while fostering a spirit of gratitude and generosity.

In collaboration with local organizations, including Cristina’s Academy, SONY Latin Music Group, SOMOS, Be the Change South Florida, Farm Share, and Green Pathways to Success, the Thanksgiving Give Back event highlighted the power of community partnerships.

Families had the opportunity to enjoy live performances by students, engage with vital resources, and share in the support of their neighbors in a joyful and welcoming atmosphere.

The event featured In the Heights star Leslie Grace, who attended to show her support and watched the talented students of Arthur and Polly Mays perform selections from the beloved musical. Additionally, Sony Latin Music president Alex Gallardo, alongside community partners, joined attendees to enjoy the inspiring student performances and celebrate the spirit of the season.

“This event exemplifies the strength of our community when we come together,” said School Board member Santos. “Beyond providing Thanksgiving meal kits to families, it was truly inspiring to witness the incredible talent of our students right here in South Dade.

Events like this remind us of the power of unity, gratitude, and the amazing potential of our students. I am deeply thankful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and efforts to make a meaningful impact this holiday season.”
