Miami-Dade County School Board member Mary Blanco (District 7) hosted a town hall meeting on Feb. 19 in partnership with Arts Access Miami at South Dade Senior High School.

The event brought together parents, students, educators and community leaders to discuss the importance of arts education and its impact on student success.

Alan Valladares, director of Arts Access Miami, outlined the organization’s mission to provide consistent, free, high-quality arts and music education to every child in Miami-Dade County and emphasized the arts’ role in supporting creativity, confidence, and academic achievement.

South Region superintendent Rafael Villalobos also highlighted the wide range of enriching programs available through Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS).

An awards ceremony was the highlight of the evening, as Blanco honored District 7 students for their academic excellence and kindness. The program opened with Kamari Reid leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Adniela Betancourt performing the National Anthem, accompanied by the South Dade Senior High School Band and JROTC. The celebration continued with dynamic performances by the South Dade Senior High School Orchestra, Redland Middle School Drumline, and South Dade Middle School Band.

“Tonight’s celebration reflects the exceptional talent and character of our District 7 community,” Blanco said. “Arts education is essential to student success. By nurturing our students’ creativity, we bolster their confidence, academic achievement, and leadership.”

Blanco extended her appreciation to Arts Access Miami director Alan Valladares, South Dade regional manager Julian Bermudez, and M-DCPS South Region superintendent Rafael Villalobos for their involvement and continued support. She also expressed gratitude to South Dade Senior High School principal Jonathan Britton, Activities director Ms. Tanya Rae, and the entire South Dade Senior High School team for their assistance in hosting the event.
