Luisa Santos, M-DCPS School Board member, has announced the success of her community resource fair and awards show, “A Night in D9.” The event took place on Apr. 15 at Palmetto Senior High School and was attended by over 1,000 community members.

The event was designed to connect local non-profit organizations with the community and provide resources and information on their services. Over 100 non-profit organizations participated as table hosts and were able to showcase their mission and services.

Activities included photo booths, face painting, scavenger hunts, over 14 live performances, free food, and much more. Attendees were able to speak directly with organization representatives and learn about their various programs.

“We wanted to create a fun and engaging atmosphere for attendees to connect with local organizations and have a good time,” said Santos said. “We are thrilled with the turnout and positive feedback from the community.”

In addition to the non-profit organization tables, the event also included an awards show honoring students, rookie teachers of the year, and teachers of the year in all 46 District 9 schools. The awards ceremony recognized the outstanding achievements of these individuals and their contributions to the community.

“We were thrilled to see so many community members come out and engage with our non-profit partners and the award winners,” Santos said. “We believe that the event provided a valuable opportunity for non-profits to connect with community members and for the community to show appreciation for the hard work of our educators and students.”

The award show also included local elected officials at the city, municipality, and state level. Elected officials representing Florida City, Homestead, Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, Pinecrest, and unincorporated Miami-Dade joined Santos on stage to give out medals.

“We were honored to have the support of fellow elected officials at the event, and we thank them for their commitment to our community and education system,” Santos said. “Their presence added an extra level of significance to the award show, and we are grateful for their participation.”
