As proposed by Miami-Dade County School Board member Mari Tere Rojas at a recent regular monthly meeting, the school board recognized Dr. Cheryl E. Johnson, principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School.
Dr. Johnson is retiring from M-DCPS after 34 years of service to her students and the community.
She has devoted her life to the field of education, with an educational philosophy based on her uncompromising belief that all children can learn when they are given a positive learning environment with a strong and committed educational team and an encouraging community.
Dr. Johnson began her educational career with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) in 1983 at Lillie C. Evans Elementary School. In 2003, Dr. Johnson was assigned as principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School and has served as its outstanding leader for the past 14 years.
“Dr. Johnson deserves this recognition for her devotion to her students and families and for the educational excellence she has achieved throughout her career,” Rojas said. “We wish Dr. Johnson much happiness and success in her retirement and in her next chapter.”
