Miami-Dade County School Board member Luisa Santos, at the meeting of Mar. 11, proffered agenda item B-4, recognizing Kristian Jose Luciano, 2027 Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DPCS) Rookie Teacher of the Year.

Luciano was named the 2027 M-DCPS Rookie Teacher of the Year on Jan. 28, reflecting his professionalism, character, and meaningful contributions to the Homestead Middle School community and the school district. Luciano has made a lasting impact as a Social Studies teacher, while also serving as Social Sciences Department chair, International Baccalaureate (IB) school site lead teacher, and sponsor of the National Junior Honor Society.

Luciano’s dedication to instructional excellence is evidenced by his use of data-driven strategies and differentiated learning techniques, which led his students to a remarkable 14 percentage-point increase on the 2025 Civics End-of-Course (EOC) examination. Students also shared that his ability to both challenge and support them in their learning makes him one of their favorite teachers.

His commitment to service extends into the broader Miami-Dade community, as he advocates for foster children as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem and participates in Leadership Miami.

A proud product of M-DCPS and a first-generation college student, Luciano earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in political science from Florida State University, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA during his graduate studies. His exemplary service has earned him further accolades, including being named the South Region Rookie Teacher of the Year (2026), the Marlins MVP Teacher of the Year (2025), the Gator Greatness Award recipient (2024), and Rookie Teacher of the Year nominee (2024).
