In honor of Veteran’s Day, the South Florida Youth Symphony will present a free patriotic-themed concert, Nov. 11, at Homestead’s Losner Park, 104 N. Krome Ave., Homestead, FL 33030.
The performance, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, begins at 7 p.m. and is part of the City of Homestead’s inaugural Veteran’s Day Celebration. The concert follows the 61st annual Veteran’s Day Parade, which begins at Losner Park at 11 a.m., with a memorial ceremony, followed by the popular parade.
The Veteran’s Day Celebration, a family-friendly event hosted by the City of Homestead, Kiwanis, the Tourism Advisory Committee and the Cybrarium, is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. and will feature numerous vendors at the Vendor Village and a wide variety of food trucks. In addition, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will offer a selection of beer and wine as part of their fundraising efforts.
“We’re excited to return to Homestead and open our 59th season as part of the City’s Veteran’s Day Celebration,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “We’re proud to be part of an event like this honoring our veterans and we have put together a concert with some rousing, exciting patriotic music.”
The SFYS program is sponsored with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, The Children’s Trust (through public referendum improving the lives of families and children making strategic investments in their future), Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget, State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, The Kirk Foundation, Publix Charities, and Nancy Friday Foundation.
