Southland Mall on Saturday, Oct. 6, awarded a $1,000 check to the Dade Reading Council for its contribution in championing the mall’s “Literacy Campaign” launched earlier this year.

The non-profit organization sponsored a storytelling event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the Center Court at Southland Mall. Children received free books for participating in the read-in session.

“We are thrilled and heartened by the success of our campaign,” said Maggie Anzardo, marketing director for Southland Mall. “In February we set out to reach 1,000 readers by Oct. 31. Once achieved, the mall would donate $1,000 to a local non-profit organization or library. “With help from our video trivia partner, RIVVID, we accomplished our goal in less than six months. Their video platform not only encouraged reading, but made learning fun for the kids and their parents.”

Southland Mall has over 1 million square feet of gross leasable area. It is located conveniently on S. Dixie Highway (US1) at SW 205th Street, off Florida’s Turnpike Exits 11 or 12, and is the only enclosed regional mall servicing South Miami-Dade County down to the Florida Keys. Southland houses over 100 specialty stores, including Macy’s, Sears, JC Penney, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Starbucks, a 16-Plex Regal Cinema and diverse Food Court.
