Celebrating its 11th year, “A Starry Night in Redland” promises fun for everyone when the Southern Cross Astronomical Society brings its powerful telescopes to the Munz Redland estate at 23600 SW 162 Ave. from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for an exciting stargazing event to benefit the Miami Youth for Christ KIX ministry.

“This star party and silent auction will take place to raise funds to send youth to spring break camp, help fund summer trips for teens and elementary children, as well as fund a day camp for children and youth throughout the summer at multiple neighborhood sites,” said Stacy Morales, Homestead YFC KIX founder and director.

In addition to the stargazing activity, this year’s “Starry Night in The Redland” will feature a silent auction, hayrides, face painting, crafts, games, horse riding, goodie bags, baked goods, delicious Caribbean food, hot dogs and sodas. The event will introduce The Starry Café, where folks can dine under the stars with their families at nominal prices.

“A Starry Night in The Redland” also is a special celebration of KIX’s 23 years in the Homestead community, where it has sought to reach under-resourced, at-risk students from kindergarten through high school at three neighborhood sites: Homestead/Florida City area; Princeton and Perrine. Each after-school club is designed to help students do something meaningful with their lives.

KIX Ministry strives to inspire them to make good, moral decisions so they can be healthy, productive members of the community. KIX offers help, structure and support to young lives.

Entrance fee for “A Starry Night in The Redland” is $3 per person. A $5 ticket will cover all kids’ activities, and tickets also will be sold separately for food and beverage items.

“The goal of this year’s event is to raise $15,000, through corporate and individual sponsorships, donations, and attendance,” Morales said. “We have a great track record, and with God’s help we believe we can do this.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the auction — whether a service, gift card, gift certificate, hotel stays or the like — is invited to contact the Homestead Youth for Christ office at 786-243-1600. You also can mail your contribution directly to: Youth for Christ/KIX, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, ATT: Stacy Morales, PO Box 561101, Miami, FL 33256.
