We hear from Steve Zarzecki of Concerned Citizens of Cutler Bay that something of interest and importance to residents of both Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay will be the topic of their next meeting on Tuesday, January 6, at 7 p.m. The meeting will feature a presentation by Eduardo Varona about the status and future of the wetlands and habitat restoration project at 184th Street and Old Cutler Road. Representatives from the National Park Service and from the Institute for Regional Conservation are expected to participate.
“After the presentation, there will be an open discussion about a proposed 9-plus acre high density development in Cutler Bay on Old Cutler Road right next to the restoration site,” says Steve. “This is a must-attend meeting for those residents who care about the future of our community.” The location for the meeting is the Cutler Ridge United Methodist Church, 20740 Old Cutler Road. Snow fun? No, lots of it! The Village of Palmetto Bay’s annual winter carnival, Holiday by the Bay, reportedly drew thousands of folks out on December 13th for the special event that featured rides, music and fun food on the mini-midway, as well as a ballet presentation on the stage of the amphitheater. There were also free Santa photos, and of course the return of the highly popular “faux snowstorm.” It all took place at Ludovici Park with parking there and at the nearby Palmetto Bay Village Center property. Only the Grinch wouldn’t have liked it. Bet it will be back next year, too.
Photo historians, take note! With the Miami International Film Festival returning in March the event’s organizer, Miami Dade College, has unveiled the official poster for it featuring a photo of legendary writer, producer, director and actor Orson Welles strolling the Miami Beach boardwalk in 1943. The photographer is unknown, so if you can help solve that mystery they would love to hear from you. The Festival runs from March 6 – 15, 2015. In Spring 2015, documentarian Chuck Workman is releasing “Magician: The Astonishing Life And Work Of Orson Welles,” featuring pristine film clips and behind the scenes video of the artist’s entire career. And in May 2015, Welles’s last unfinished film, “The Other Side of the Wind,” a film which cinema buffs consider to be the most famous movie never released, will finally debut after four decades of behind the scenes drama.
