The Javier Perez goes from tragedy to triumph with Modern Med Centers

Javier Perez’s life changed dramatically and forever on Apr. 26, 2016 when a drunk driver ran over him as he coached his son’s baseball team at Tamiami Park.

His injuries were so severe that both of his legs were amputated and he was unable to return to his job as the beloved principal of South Dade Senior High School.

He credits his wife Maytee, his son Jordan and his daughter Sabrina as the primary catalyst for his miraculous recovery, for today he owns a successful business called Modern Med Centers and is in wonderful health, all things considered.

The aftermath of the accident could not have foreshadowed the recovery Javi has made.

Emotional, weak and depressed, Javi was languishing in the hospital when Maytee suggested that perhaps a blood test should be conducted. When the results came back, doctors found that his testosterone, a critical hormone affecting bone and muscle growth and mood, was at rock-bottom.

They put me on a testosterone program and I made progress right away,” Javi said. “I felt unbelievable. My depression lifted completely. I suddenly felt energetic. I told my family that I wanted to open a hormone replacement therapy practice as soon as I could so others could experience the benefits I had.”

He opened Modern Med Centers in 2019 and after initially offering hormone replacement therapy for men and women, expanded the services to include IV therapy providing vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for better health, weight loss and athletic recovery.

“In addition to hormone replacement, we are popular for our IV pushes among athletes, those recovering from an illness or injury, and people wanting to lose weight,” he said. “We offer Ozempic and Sermoralin therapy, and we treat erectile dysfunction as well.”

Dr. Maria Moro is the medical director at Modern Med Centers, assisted by two physician assistants. She reviews each patient’s full panel blood test, consults with them and develops a treatment plan. Insurance covers the blood work and medications are paid out of pocket.

“People easily spend $200 going out for an evening,” Javi said. “Who wouldn’t spend that much once a month on therapy that will make them healthier and feel great? We are the modern-day fountain of youth.”

Modern Med Centers is located at 850 NW 42 Ave., Suite 204. For more information, visit www.modernmedcenters.com.
