The Town of Cutler Bay conducted its regular monthly council meeting on Tuesday, July 26. It was the first meeting in its new council chambers, recently completed in the Town Hall Building.
The facility was ready in time and has movable chairs to make the space more flexible for different sized audiences.
The first meeting there attracted some 40 people, due to interest in the new facility, the formal swearing in ceremony for returning council members Ernie Sochin and Sue Ellen Loyzelle, and a proclamation presentation.
When the meeting turned to a quasi-judicial hearing roughly half the audience departed with the interested attendees remaining, according to town clerk Esther Coulson.
“We are finally home,” Mayor Edward MacDougall said afterwards.
Vice Mayor Ernie Sochin was even more enthusiastic.
“Like being in a real town,” Sochin said. “Love it! Our manager did a great job in planning this.”
Town manager Steve Alexander praised the contractor and was pleased with the outcome of the new facility and its features.
“We had a great design-build firm and I knew exactly what I wanted,” Alexander said. “Come by and see it sometime.”
The next regular council meeting in the new chambers will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
