The Town of Cutler Bay is planning a number of special events to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day as well as taking part in the annual Baynanza cleanup. Most activities are scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 22.
There will be tree plantings and a proclamation presentation by Mayor Peggy Bell from 10 a.m. to noon at Saga Bay Park, 8000 SW 205 St.
There also will be information provided by guest speakers who work with the environment on a daily basis including different departments from the Town of Cutler Bay and Miami-Dade County.
For information about this event contact Kimberly Holmes at Kholmes@cutlerbay-fl.gov or call 305-238-4166. VisualScape Landscape Professionals are sponsoring the event.
For Cutler Bay residents Baynanza 2017 will take place at Black Point Marina, 24775 SW 87 Ave. Baynanza is an annual county project that brings many volunteers together, mainly students and their parents, as well as Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops to pick up trash and litter along the coastal areas in an effort to restore them to an almost pristine quality and help prevent further damage to the environment. This activity is for ages 12 and older. To register for the event or for additional information go to www.miamidade.gov/environment or call 305-372-6784 as soon as possible.
The day before these events — Friday, Apr. 21 — the town’s Public Works Department will conduct an Earth Day Event for the students at Cutler Ridge Elementary. The town will donate a butterfly garden to the school, featuring flowers and plants that attract butterflies.
