For the second time in two years the American Public Works Association (APWA) has presented two awards for projects in Cutler Bay, recognizing the town’s Public Works Department.

The APWA’s Florida Chapter gave its “Contractor of the Year” Award to Acosta Tractors Inc. and the “Consultant of the Year” Award to Stantec for their work in the Roads and Highways category for the reconstruction and improvements made on Caribbean Boulevard.

The ceremony took place during APWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition in Daytona Beach at the end of April. The town’s Public Works director Alfredo Quintero along with Frank Acosta (Acosta Tractors Inc.) and Sean Compel (Stantec) were present to accept the awards.

Last year the APWA awarded “Project Manager of the Year” to Public Works drirector Alfredo Quintero and “Stormwater Contractor of the Year” to Acosta Tractors Inc. The awards recognized the town’s management and construction efforts, which were highlighted as being the most outstanding from the long list of nominees considered.

The APWA‘s Florida Chapter Awards Program was established to recognize outstanding individuals and groups representing the best achievements in the public works profession throughout the state of Florida.

Town manager Rafael G. Casals was pleased by the repeat accomplishment.

“I am very proud of our Public Works Department and project team in being once again recognized by the APWA Florida Chapter for their best management practices,” Casals said. “Unlike the Old Cutler Roadway project, the Caribbean Boulevard project requires a more personable approach since reconstruction improvement efforts are being performed in front of residents’ homes. Our project team is literally on a first name basis with all of the affected homeowners who live along Caribbean Boulevard.”
