The Town of Cutler Bay’s Franjo Road Roadway Improvements Project is scheduled to begin construction in July. The launch date was announced during the Public Information Session on Wednesday, May 29.

The purpose of the project is to “enhance public safety, ease traffic congestion, and improve pedestrian mobility, while also beautifying the neighborhood with various streetscape improvements.”

The project’s total cost is about $16,128,603 and was funded through multiple sources, including $8,347,373 from the Miami-Dade County Joint Participation Agreement, contributions from the Town’s People’s Transportation Plan (PTP), the Town’s Stormwater Utility Funds and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Scheduled for Franjo Road from SW 184th Street to Old Cutler Road the project features:

  • Two traffic circles at Franjo Road intersections with Gulfstream Road and Cutler Ridge Drive.
  • Lane expansion from two to three lanes, including a center turn lane and dedicated turn lanes at key intersections.
  • New street lighting and decorative bus shelters with bus pull-out bays.
  • Drainage improvements to eliminate driveway ponding and rutted swale areas.
  • ADA compliance with new ramps and complete accessibility.
  • Dedicated bicycle share lanes.
  • Curb and gutter installation throughout, along with new driveway approaches.
  • Landscape improvements and beautification efforts.
  • Decorative bus shelters.
  • Two bus pullout bays (Franjo Park and Bel-Aire Park).

Town planners estimate that the project will be completed by June of 2026. The infrastructure improvement was part of the town’s Complete Streets Corridor Analysis Master Plan out of a desire to create a pedestrian-friendly community with a vast network of sidewalks and improved public safety measures, according to Public Works Director Alfredo Quintero.

“As the Public Works Director, I am committed to ensuring that the Franjo Road Roadway Improvements Project addresses the Town’s critical infrastructure needs,” said Quintero. “The project was planned and designed to improve all modes of transportation and for all users regardless of age or physical ability. We appreciate the community’s input and await your feedback as we progress with these essential improvements.”
