The Town of Cutler Bay’s next “Shred-A-Thon” event will take place on Friday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Cutler Bay Town Center, South Parking Lot, in an effort to fight against identity theft. A similar event took last year in June.
“It is designed to be a resource for the community,” said Paola Perez, Events & Programs Specialist for the Department of Parks & Recreation.
According to information from town staff, someone’s identity is stolen every two seconds. This common occurrence is made easier for thieves when people throw old documents, bills, bank statements and other paperwork with detailed personal information in the trash outside their homes, where it is easily accessible.
On June 14 Cutler Bay residents will be able to have their confidential documents safely shredded for free at this event. The shredded material will be recycled.
Residents are invited to bring their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts, outdated medical records and any other material that might contain sensitive data. No registration is required, but residents are advised to come early, since once the truck is full, no other paperwork will be accepted.
Please remove paper clips and staples prior to arrival. Pages that are held together by plastic or metal rings, binders or clamps will not be accepted.
The Town center is located at 10720 Caribbean Boulevard in Cutler Bay. For information contact Paola Perez at 786-205-5427 or by email at pperez@cutlerbay-fl.gov.
