Don’t “pass” this up! Spring, with summer not all that far behind, is as good a time as any to remind everyone about the Museum Pass from the Miami?Dade Public Library System. Besides finding great books to read and special activities, you can visit your nearest branch library and check out a museum pass. Ask the library staff about availability, then use your library card to get one. The Museum Pass offers patrons free admission for a family of four to a bunch of great area museums and facilities, including the Bass Museum of Art, Deering Estate at Cutler, FIU Frost Art Museum, Fruit & Spice Park, HistoryMiami, Lowe Art Museum – University of Miami, Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Science Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens and The Wolfsonian – Florida International University.
More things to keep in mind:
• Pass is good for one visit.
• Pass is not renewable or available for reserve.
• Pass is valid for seven days from the time of check out.
• Passes are available on a first?come, first?served basis.
• Pass will not be replaced if lost or stolen.
• Only one pass may be checked out at a time.
• Museums may apply restrictions for special event?/?exhibits.

And speaking of books, there’s a great program called Read to Learn Books for Free that accepts gently used and even new books to help fill bookshelves with free books for children and families with limited access to them. The idea is to get kids “reading and succeeding.” You can drop off donated books in the green donation bins at any Miami-Dade Police Department locations, including of course the one in Palmetto Bay at 9705 East Hibiscus Street, and the one in Cutler Bay at the South District office, 10800 SW 211 Street. Habitat For Humanity ReStore. If you need something for around the house, or if you have an unwanted item you would like to donate, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, appliances and other home improvement items. Shoppers who patronize their store can get some great bargains and at the same time help this worthwhile organization raise money for their mission of eliminating substandard housing. Items come and go fairly quickly, so it pays to check often. Habitat for Humanity ReStore is located at 20811 South Dixie Highway, in Cutler Bay. The Rotary Club of Perrine-Cutler Ridge/Palmetto Bay (the right name this time) has its general meetings on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Tuesday of every month.
