Homestead Vice Mayor Sean Fletcher is spearheading a campaign to advocate for the return of NASCAR Championship Weekend at the renowned Homestead-Miami Speedway.

From 2002 to 2019, Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted the NASCAR Championship Weekend, cultivating a legacy of motorsport excellence and community involvement throughout the City of Homestead and Miami-Dade County. This adrenaline-pumping event became a fixture for 18 thrilling seasons, captivating audiences with heart-stopping races and unforgettable moments.

The NASCAR events held at Homestead-Miami Speedway have consistently delivered substantial economic benefits to host cities and states. These events annually generate an economic impact surpassing $150 million and support nearly 1,500 jobs. The absence of the NASCAR Championship from Homestead-Miami Speedway has reverberated throughout the community, impacting local businesses, residents, and motorsport enthusiasts alike.

“I think we are way overdue for the Championship weekend to return to Homestead,” Vice Mayor Fletcher said. “This strategic initiative would boost our city’s prestige and the local economy while bringing the community together.”

Vice Mayor Fletcher recognizes the significance of reinstating this cherished tradition. Beyond nostalgia, the return of the NASCAR Championship Weekend would inject vitality into the local economy, revive a valued tradition, and bolster Florida’s reputation as the premier destination for major sporting events.

To achieve this goal, Vice Mayor Fletcher emphasizes the importance of a collaborative effort involving monetary and in-kind support from various levels of government, such as the City of Homestead, Miami-Dade County, State of Florida, and other relevant organizations. Together, these stakeholders can create opportunities to bring back the NASCAR Championship Weekend to Homestead-Miami Speedway, benefiting the community and fostering economic prosperity.
