On June 22, at 5:36 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s (MDFR) Engine 50, Rescue 50, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 43 responded to a medical emergency involving a pediatric patient in need of immediate care.
A neighbor, who happened to be a nurse and physician assistant, already was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when MDFR arrived. The child was unresponsive, and paramedics quickly took over, continuing CPR and administering life-saving medication. Their quick response restored the child’s breathing before transporting the young patient to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Two months after the incident, the brave young child has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering well, gradually returning to normal daily routine and activities. Now, the time came to meet and personally thank the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue firefighters who played a vital role in giving a second chance at life. The reunion took place at MDFR Station 50 on Friday, Oct. 17.
