Youth Fair named ‘Trustee of Year’ by South Florida Hispanic Chamber

The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition received the 2016 Trustee of the Year Award from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for administering opportunities that encourage young people to reach their full potential in life.

“A major part of the Youth Fair’s mission is to give back to the Miami Dade community.” said Robert Hohenstein, fair president and CEO.

“A significant program hosted by the Youth Fair is the Walter B. Arnold Jr. Youth Hall of Fame Community Service Award, which recognizes middle and high school students from all walks of life who have volunteered hundreds of hours to help others.”

The Youth Fair’s community service award stands out as the only one of its kind in South Florida. Each year, eight student finalists from public and private schools are selected through a competitive nomination process. The finalists receive a plaque in recognition of their achievements along with a stipend of $100 each. The Youth Fair inducts two finalists into the Youth Hall of Fame and rewards them with a $1,000 check.

The Youth Fair accepted the award at the chamber’s 22nd annual Sunshine Awards luncheon on Nov. 4. Every year, the Sunshine Awards aim to honor organizations for their leadership, contributions, successes, participation and involvement in the Hispanic community.

The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition (Youth Fair) is the largest charity event in South Florida. The not-for-profit association is dedicated to promoting education and agriculture while showcasing and rewarding youth achievement and providing quality family entertainment, all without taxpayer dollars.

The annual Youth Fair exhibits more than 58,000 student projects to more than 612,000 fair guests and awards more than $460,000 annually in college scholarships, cash premiums and awards to students. To date, The Youth Fair has presented well over $11 million to the Miami-Dade community. The Fair Exposition Center, which is the second largest convention center in Miami-Dade County, hosts an additional 70 community events each year. Visit fairexpo.com or call 305-223-7060.
