Tim Meerbott is running for the office of Mayor of Cutler Bay.
Meerbott formerly served several terms as the village council Seat 1 member. A lifelong resident, Meerbott is a graduate of Miami Southridge Senior High and went on to the University of Florida and Florida International University where he earned a degree in economics. After college, he chose to stay in Cutler Bay to raise a family. He was married 27 years to his wife, Cosette, a teacher who passed away in 2015, and he has two sons, Lance and Kyle.

All candidates were asked the following questions:
If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?
“I would reengage with retail organizations and actively recruit new businesses to come to Cutler Bay with an emphasis on restaurants. I would reconvene the South Dade coalition I co-founded to have a unified voice of the South Dade corridor so we can more effectively find solutions to traffic and uncontrolled growth and fight the negative effects the growth has had on our lives.”

What motivated you to run for office?
“I grew up in Cutler Ridge. My family and I have always been active in the community — from coaching baseball, soccer and football, to leading the children’s service at our church. It is important to me to preserve the character of our town so that my children and others enjoy the same great community that I did. I have been a division leader for a major company and have overseen a division which handles business across the country and a multimillion dollar budget. I believed the skills and experience I have gained in more than 30 years of business could help make my vision a reality.”

Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?
“The mayor is the leader of the town. It is not a position that should be filled by someone with no experience. I am the only candidate that has council experience. I was one of the original council members for Cutler Bay and worked to establish the town.

I was there for the workshops and charrettes as we formed our vision for one of the best cities in the country.

I have sat on the Town Charter Review Committee twice. I was the designated town business liaison, which worked to bring business and restraints like Buffalo Wild Wings and others to Cutler Bay. I am familiar with the staff, budgeting and the operation of the town.

In addition to my years on the council I also have demonstrated the ability to bring together other leaders with the South Dade Coalition which I co-founded and bring a unified front in ensuring that the south part of our county gets treated fairly. My ingenuity and hard work has helped bring new parks, improved roads and better services to our town.

I believe that I am the best candidate to continue to bring improvements to Cutler Bay.”
