William Scott

William Scott is running for the office of mayor of Cutler Bay.
Scott was born in Tallahassee of Cuban and Irish descent. He has been a Cutler Bay resident since 2012. He joined the U.S. Army and Florida Army National Guard. After retiring from military service, he worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services assisting with cases dealing with fraud. Scott later worked as a security management consultant under the Department of Defense and State Department. Scott joined the Knights of Columbus, participating in charity work for his church and surrounding communities, and assisted with organizing local business charities.

All candidates were asked the following questions:
If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?
“To begin with, pause any plans for large development that will increase the density of traffic surrounding our community.

Second and very important is the safety of our children. Our children are being dropped off by our public school buses in high traffic areas, where there are no or little safety measures in place for them. These same roads are used by residents and visitors while riding bikes or walking around the neighborhood. I have studied the plans that were prepared in 2014 to include crosswalks in high traffic areas, to be completed in 2019. Four years have passed and the most basic safety precautions have not been put in place.

“Our town has been working hard to make improvements, but the crosswalks have been put in place mostly around major intersections and not within the community. Safety should be foremost for our residents and their families. My own son was a victim of a hit and run at one of these high traffic locations. I will work closely with the many professionals in our town to improve the quality of life for our residents and families by fixing and updating our older parks to include more family activities. Also, invite businesses to Cutler Bay that will create jobs.”

What motivated you to run for office?
“As a resident who interacts and invests with our community and businesses, I hear and see the problems and concerns we face every day. That would include safety, traffic issues, overdevelopment and the worry of losing our town’s natural beauty and integrity. These issues are important to me because once it is gone, so will be the pride, integrity and safety of our town.”

Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?
“First, I am not a politician. I am a proud veteran who understands the importance of protecting the welfare of our community. In the military we are trained to stay focused on the task at hand by prioritizing on what needs to be done first, second and third, to achieve optimal results. We have many skilled and professional people working for the town of Cutler Bay, and under the proper leadership, we will work closely and focus on the issues our town faces day to day.”

  1. Edit correction on my last post….. Our town does not need career politicians. We need one who focuses on our town. I believe Tim Meerbot as that person!!

  2. In Response to Mrs. Triana Campbell….. First I LOVE Cutler Bay and always will. Let me describe to you a little of what you may not know. Running for town Mayor has nothing to do with a political affiliation, but on how to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. During the elections all candidates met together in our local pubs to discuss how we would do this job irregardless of who wins or not…. Winning is not important! Caring for our community is! Yes I moved but it had nothing to do with my love for my Town. Before I left I met with Mayor Tim Meerbot and we discussed many things. First thing I said to him was …. How happy I am with his accomplishments in regards to our towns improvement. What people need to realize is party affiliation has nothing to do with a small town of 50000 people quality of life. We all live together and want to live clean safe and happy lives. This is not a popularity contest. It’s about who will become a career politician and use our town as a spring board for future politics….. I can assure you that Tim Meerbot has done great and I know he will care for my town regardless if I am there or not. My last word as a former resident …. Vote for Meerbot!!!!!!!

  3. When I read that he would stop all large development in this city I knew he wouldn’t get elected. He lost and has since sold his house and moved away. Althought that is not illegal to do it does show how great of interest he has in our community!

  5. So, let me get this straight, if Adolph Hitler is running for the political party of your choice. Would you vote him blindly?? Study the candidate’s program and ideas, that’s the best way to emit an educated vote. Party affiliation is not that important in local elections anyway.

  6. This is what’s wrong with this country. People concern themselves with what side you are on instead of what you are going to be doing for the people.

  7. Why can’t I find his political party affiliation? That’s very important to me before I vote. I do not care how nice he is

  8. This is going to be my candidate of choice. My daughter also was hit and run victim although she’s fine. I appreciate his service to our country as I have the sun in the Marines who also does charity work like Mr. Scott does I appreciate that kind of work ethic. I hope to see him if elected continue protecting disabled parking rights in our community as this has been a heavy focus of mine having a wheelchair-bound child.

  9. I know William since he was a kid, he is an amazing human being. William Scott has a golden heart and our citizens would only be so lucky to have him. I wish him only the most brilliant future to make the very much needed changes. With his life experiences and achievements William is the person to make things happen. I feel very blessed to have known such a special person like him. I send him all my love and I know he was put in this planet to change the world for the better.
