Wednesday’s council meeting has Publix on the agenda

Well, folks, Wednesday May 15th is the next Town Council Meeting, and we are told that one of the items on the night’s agenda is the matter of the Shoppes of Cutler Bay and the big new Publix supermarket that would anchor the center. This has been an issue arousing varied opinions over the past year or two, so we expect that residents who are affected in one way or another may want to attend this meeting, too. This month, because there are several “quasi judicial” matters to be heard as well, the meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m., an hour earlier than usual, but we have it on good authority that the Publix matter won’t come up until 7:00 p.m. or later. As always, the town council meetings are at Town Hall, 10720 Caribbean Boulevard, Cutler Bay. For more info about the meeting, call Town Hall at 305-234-4262 or visit the town’s official website at www.cutlerbay-fl.gov.

Free Flick! That’s right, Movie Night is at Cutler Ridge Park on Friday May 17, at 7:00 p.m. The park is located at 10100 SW 200 Street, and the big inflated screen will be set up in the elementary school field adjacent to it. This looks like a really cute film the whole family will enjoy, called “Rise of the Guardians” from Dreamworks Studios. Imagine Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and all the other legendary and popular childhood figures banding together to protect humanity, with the quality you’d expect from Dreamworks. Admission is FREE, and the Cutler Ridge Soccer Club will be selling concession food and drinks throughout the night. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. For more info call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-238-4166.

Seniors and others who want to improve their general fitness and look really cool doing it may want to check out the free Tai Chi classes at Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200th Street, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Tai Chi is said to improve flexibility and balance, help you focus your mind and reduce stress. For more info call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305- 238-4166.

Vacancy! We don’t know the details, but we heard that the Town of Cutler Bay is looking for a person to serve on the Education Advisory Committee. Residents interested in applying to serve should provide a resume, a list of qualifications, or other relevant information to the office of town clerk by Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Inquiries may be directed to the Office of Town Clerk at 305-234-4262, or in person at 10720 Caribbean Boulevard, Cutler Bay, FL 33189.
