Commissioner Bovo statement on the Palmetto Expressway

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr. has issued the following public statement regarding the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826): “The situation residents are facing on the Palmetto Expressway is unacceptable. The Florida Department of Transportation has recently installed plastic poles along the Palmetto, creating yet another express lane,” Commissioner Bovo said. “This is not only a transportation issue, but also a quality of life issue. Residents of District 13 and other daily Palmetto Expressway commuters must now face either a toll or additional time sitting in their vehicle. As Chair of the Transportation and Finance Committee, I too share the same frustrations that these drivers endure. Though this is not a Miami-Dade County decision, the County Commission and the State of Florida must work together to deliver transit solutions and respond to these imminent concerns.”

  1. What does “work together” mean? If the plastic poles are not removed and the express lane eliminated there’s nothing else that would remedy the situation. These poles and lane have taken away a lane on the Palmetto for Miami Lakers adding another 15 minutes to getting through 154 St.

  2. I was present at the meeting years ago when this was presented and everyone that attended than, was in a agreement this would not work. Its time to build up !!! Double stack the Palmetto !!! Lets use common sense !!!

  3. FDOT is unbearable and the criteria used for their grading of roadway Levels of Service is blatantly dishonest! (Also known as LOS). FDOT is not working in our best interests. They work for the interests of developers and corrupt politicians who want to keep piling on more density in spite of a grossly overburdened infrastructure!!! Bovo should have been voting NO to overdevelopment all these years. He has been a party to creating the problem, and now that so much damage has been done, he is playing the part of the hero????? Really???

  4. THIS IS CORRECT AND IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD THE LANES ARE VERY NARROW AND DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR NEXT TO A TRUCK THEY NEED TO RESOLVE THIS ASAP BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.HOW IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY APPROVE THIS THE TRAFFIC IS UNBEARABLE.
