Communities in Schools of Miami (CIS of Miami) will host its 28th annual fundraising event, presented by Publix Super Markets Charities, on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., at the Intercontinental at Doral Miami. The annual fundraiser supports CIS of Miami’s educational programs and services that help over 20,000 South Florida students each year succeed in and out of school.
The theme of this year’s charity event is “Bow Ties & BBQ,” creating a family-friendly atmosphere to commemorate the organization’s dedication to empowering students to stay in school through mentoring, tutoring, development skills, community resources and more. “This year, we’re giving our guests more of what they love the most. Live musical performances by the students in the Guitars Over Guns program and from other local schools, and dance performances will give this BBQ a true community experience,” said Elyssa Linares, President and CEO of CIS of Miami.
Guests will also enjoy a delicious barbecue buffet dinner, activities for both children and adults, silent auctions and craft sales. Attendees are encouraged to wear bow ties and dress in casual attire. The event will take place in at the Intercontinental at Doral Miami. The evening includes a silent auction where supporters can bid on luxury items including vacation packages, hotel stays, theme park tickets, adventure packages, restaurant gift certificates, spa treatments, jewelry, sports memorabilia and more.
Advanced tickets for the annual philanthropic event are $50 for adults and $25 for children under 12 if purchased by March 10, 2017. Proceeds directly benefit CIS of Miami. In 2016, CIS of Miami’s gala raised $80,000 to fund dropout prevention programs including tutoring, mentoring and financial literacy to children in grades K-12.
