In an effort to lift the spirits of Miami International Airport’s TSA employees during the government shutdown, local celebrity Chef Chris Valdes will be serving 1,000 workers a Mexican themed buffet this Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Chef Chris shared his thoughts stating, “I wanted to show these hardworking Americans that they are appreciated. This is not about who is on what side of the wall…this is about providing some form of relief to employees who have had to work without pay for a month while performing a vital service to this country by protecting our airport. This is my way of thanking them and hopefully putting a smile on their face.”

Chef Chris, a native Miamian and a finalist on this season’s Food Network Star has made an impact in our local community by giving back and supporting many philanthropic causes, including the Chapman Partnership Homeless Assistance Center where he has been organizing an Annual Holiday Party for the kids since he was sixteen years old.

A featured chef in this year’s South Beach Food & Wine Festival, Chef Chris has been honored for his community involvement. In 2018, he was chosen as Principal for the Day for his High School Felix Varela as part of the MDCPS Principal TODAY program. He was also selected to give the keynote speech to students entering Miami Dade College’s Culinary Institute. Chef Chris has also been chosen to judge many local contests including the Coral Gables Rotary Club’s Annual Chili Cook off coming up on Sunday, February 24, 1 – 5 p.m., at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables. You can also find Chef Chris at the upcoming Cork & Fork event in Coral Gables and at Miami Zoo’s annual fundraiser Feast with the Beasts.

  1. I admire and congratulate you, a real patriot. But ordinary, hard working people having to bail out fellow citizens? Shame on all politicians for the shutdown. But mostly to the Republicans for blaming the Democrats. Let’s end the shutdown, negotiate. Are we now to close the government every time # 45 does not get his wish?
