Doral voters approve ‘Parks For Tomorrow’ bond

On Election Day, voters in the City of Doral said “yes” to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. By doing so they said yes to expanding opportunities for improving health; and yes to growing the city’s world-class parks system.

The approved bond funds will be used to fund the construction of high-priority, city-wide projects that include increased green and nature spaces, development of Doral Central Park, construction of cultural facility and improvement of the city’s bikeways network and existing parks.

“For 15 years, Doral has delivered on the vision of providing our families with the highest level of quality of life through our nationally-recognized parks,” said City Manager Edward Rojas. “Now that the community has spoken, our efforts will go into high gear.”

Rojas noted that the approved funds will allow the city to tackle more projects in less time. “The result will be an unprecedented expansion of Doral’s natural, recreational, and leisure facilities, delivered in the same effective, efficient, and transparent manner the community has come to know and expect,” he said.

Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez added that, with this bond vote, “Doral residents have sent a clear message – parks are a top priority. As a community, we clearly recognize the value of investing in and for families here.

The mayor, city council, and administrative team will immediately turn their attention to establishing the safeguards that will guide the city’s use of the bond funds, including establishing the audit oversight committee, preparing project plans, and providing the residents with regular progress reports.

“As with all city projects, I am fully committed to seeing that these projects meet resident expectations and the need for the betterment of this great city,” Bermudez said.

It is anticipated that city government will issue the bond for the first phase of the funds as early as 2019, with project construction to begin shortly after.
