School slated to open in the fall of 2015

Recently, Codina Partners, Link Construction and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) held a special topping off ceremony to mark the completion of the steel construction phase of Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School (DDCES), which is part of a 120-acre, mixed-used downtown for the City of Doral that is master developed by Codina Partners.

Present at the ceremony were Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho; Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School Head of School Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg; Codina Partners CEO Ana-Marie Codina Barlick; Consul General of Brazil in Miami Ambassador Hélio Ramos, Link Construction executives, City of Doral officials and M-DCPS Board Member, Susie Castillo.

“Today is a great day for public education. Thanks to our partnership with Codina, we are building the first district-managed charter school from the ground up.This is a model that works, and that communities all around the nation will be able to replicate,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho.

Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School is projected to open in fall of 2015 and will accommodate over 800 students from Pre-K through fifth grade. DDCES will offer a one-of-a-kind, dual language curriculum, which will prepare students to excel in an increasingly complex global society. DDCES is private-public partnership, which will be managed by M-DCPS.

“Our mission is to provide our students with a comprehensive dual curriculum, a bicultural and bilingual education through an innovative language program,” said Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg, Head of School of DDCES. Acevedo-Isenberg has more than 20 years of experience working for Miami-Dade Schools and will oversee all aspects of the school’s operations.

Applications for Kindergarten through 3rd Grade for the 2015-16 school year are being accepted through February 20, 2015.Applications for the Pre-school will be available on DDCES.org onMarch 1, 2015. Deadline to apply for the Pre-school isApril 1,2015.

The school will mostly serve the residential area known as Downtown Doral, which is destined to become the heart of the City of Doral. In addition to the elementary school, the mixed-use development includes over 2,840 residential units, 180,000 square feet of retail, more than one million square feet of commercial space (partially completed and occupied), as well as a public park and outdoor recreation facility adjacent to the Doral Government Center built by Codina Partners on land donated by the company.

The school designed by Zyscovich Architects and built by Link Constructions is slated to open in August.
