MDA Muscle Walk of Miami raises $44,000 for Muscular Dystrophy

More than $44,000 was raised at the 2018 annual MDA Muscle Walk of Miami on Nov. 3, in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s shared mission to help free kids and adults from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility.

Teams of families, friends, and neighbors, along with local businesses and public supporters joined forces for the annual walk at Doral Central Park to celebrate the strength of local MDA families, while raising critical awareness and funds to help accelerate research efforts to find treatments and cures.

“More than 250 people turned out for this year’s walk to help us bring strength to life for the real stars of the event – the kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases,” said MDA Associate Executive Director Karina Lambertini.

“We are grateful to the Miami community who generously contributed their time and money in support of MDA’s efforts to provide lifesaving research and support so these individuals and their families can experience a world without limitations,” she added.

This year’s walk included Doral Vice Mayor Claudia Mariaca, The Florida Panther’s ROAR Squad and Energy Team, 4EverDJ, DJ Regz, and MDA families and their supporters.

Top fundraising teams at this year’s event include Team Crizzy, Team Lucas: Cure for Duchenne, ACE Jiffy Lube, Team Mariana, and Team Thomas for MDA. Combined, the top five teams raised over $12,500.

The MDA Muscle Walk of Miami was sponsored by Biogen, Quantum Rehab, Sarepta, Numotion, Avexis and local sponsors including: All Florida Paper and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Muscle Walk contributions help MDA fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including state-of- the-art multidisciplinary care the MDA Care Center at The University of Miami. They also make MDA summer camp possible where kids can experience the best week of the year at no cost to their families.
