Miami Christian School again achieves State Champs status

Miami Christian School’s Boys Basketball team has won back-to-back state championships. In early March, the Victors team, coached by Juan Cordona, traveled to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Central Florida Christian (68-53) in the semi-finals and Impact Christian (59-46) in the finals.

Miami Christian forced Impact to turn over the ball 22 times in the final game and held them to 11 points total in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. This is the third state championship in four years for the MCS Victors.

On the academic front, MCS History Scholars students submitted projects to the National History Day Contest/Competition at All Angels Academy and came away with many wins: 1st Place Documentary went to Nina Beam; 2nd Place Exhibit went to Chrissy Rosillo & Sophia Ziemer; and 3rd Place Exhibit to Victor Guerrero & Daznee Huertas.Proud Coach Greys Buitrago applauds their success as all have qualified to go to State Competition in Tallahassee in May.

MCS students studying Mandarin participated in Chinese New Year’s activities on campus under the direction of Chinese instructor Ming-ru Chaung. Among the activities in which the students participated were singing, storytelling, crafts and food and games with the older students assisting younger students with the various activities.

Congratulations to Senior Luis Machado who has been accepted to Flagler College, which was just ranked by US News and World Report as the number two college in the South.

In alumni news, Josh Rosario, MCS Class of 2017, is a member of the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus (UMBC) basketball team, where he is attending on a basketball scholarship. His team just qualified to go to the March Madness tournament.
