Palmetto General Hospital welcomes new board members

Palmetto General Hospital welcomes Dr. Monica Mejia-Acosta and community leader Alex Gonzalez to the Governing Board of Palmetto General Hospital. The Governing Board is responsible for oversight of the quality and environment of care at the hospital, medical staff credentialing, and patient safety and satisfaction.

“We are honored to have these two new distinguished individuals added to our Governing Board,” said Ana Mederos, CEO. “They each bring a unique perspective and will assist Palmetto General Hospital’s mission to ensure the health and wellness of our community.”

Dr. Monica Mejia-Acosta graduated with honors in 2000 from Kennedy’s Hospital in Bogota, Colombia. She did her internship program at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. Dr. Mejia-Acosta completed her Residency in Neurology at the University of Chicago. She is Board-Certified in Neurology with the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties Certification in Neurocritical Care.

Alex Gonzalez, president of Argentis Group has a record of success in complex turnaround and high-growth environments. He has a proven ability to enhance operational efficiencies and establish solid network of contracts and working relationships with business leaders, governing authorities, and labor unions. Gonzalez is currently serving as President of the Florida Department of Highway Safety Advisory Board. He assisted the Venezuelan Minister of Environment in preparing environmental legislation. Gonzalez, attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.

The 2017 Governing Board is comprised of local community and business leaders and physicians who are members of the medical staff.
